The cannabis company said Chairman Kevin Murphy and board member Brian Mulroney are stepping down as Acreage streamlines its governance structure in preparation for its strategic arrangement with Canopy Growth and Canopy USA.

In connection with the streamlining initiative, the company is evaluating corporate governance actions that would reduce its number of required board members from five to three. Chief Financial Officer Carl Nesbitt and general counsel Corey Sheahan were appointed to the board in the interim.

Mulroney is a former prime minister of Canada. Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner and Bill Van Faasen, former chairman of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, are also on the board, according to the company's website.
